MEET BREIGH
An experienced education leader rooted in Ascension Parish

Breigh Rainey Rhodes grew up in Ascension Parish Public Schools and has dedicated her career to public education. She’s worked as an educator, district leader, and state education agency leader, with deep experience in the daily realities of classrooms and schools as well as in education policymaking, implementation, and research.
Breigh’s dedication to education was inspired by her family and local history. Breigh’s interest began as a child, listening to stories told by her great-grandmother, a teacher in a one-room schoolhouse in the early 1900s. The oldest of seven, Breigh would often turn any play area into her imaginary classroom, rounding up her younger siblings to play as the “students.” She and her husband Adam, also a public servant in law enforcement, are both graduates of Ascension Parish Public Schools. Breigh and Adam have three children, all of whom attend Ascension schools. For several generations, their families have served in the school system as teachers and staff, with many who continue to this day.
Breigh’s legacy as an educator led her to earn multiple college degrees in education– a Bachelor of Science from Southeastern and a Master’s Degree from LSU. She has been recognized throughout her career for her innovation in the classroom, dedication to students, and leadership of major state and national initiatives to improve our schools. She has won several awards for her teaching, including a National Geographic Fellowship to Antarctica and the national Grand Prize in Disney’s Planet Challenge. As a district and state education leader, she has championed updated math and science standards, ensured special education students receive the services they deserve, represented Louisiana in a nationwide effort to improve the resources available to science teachers, and led several major state efforts supporting teachers and students that continue to benefit our schools today.
Breigh believes that every child deserves an excellent teaching and learning environment. As your representative on the Ascension Parish School Board, she’ll ensure our schools are safe, build belonging, and provide the support our students need to reach their fullest potential.
