Putting decades of experience to work
for Ascension Public Schools
Safe, supportive schools preparing all of our children for the future
Safe, Supportive Learning Environments
Our students, teachers and staff deserve safe schools where they can focus fully on teaching and learning.
Breigh will work to ensure our campuses stay safe and secure and that our school environments foster a welcoming, positive atmosphere. She’ll advocate for sensible policies that maintain safety both on our campuses and in online spaces while also working to ensure our schools are places where people feel valued and truly supported. Only then can our students and staff focus fully on what matters most – learning.
Every child is bright, capable, and full of potential for success. But it’s our responsibility to put the policies and resources in place so that every kid has access to supportive pathways for growth and adults who value and believe in them. Breigh has the broad experience necessary to identify those policies and strategically enact them to help all of our students.
High-Quality, Future-Ready Learning
Every student should be academically engaged, making visible progress, and receiving the targeted support they need to thrive in a changing world. Breigh will expand access to proven educational opportunities and ensure students build the knowledge and skills necessary to flourish.
In recent years, Louisiana has led the way in implementing effective strategies to help our students learn. As Director of Math, Science, and STEM at Louisiana Department of Ed, Breigh has spearheaded high quality programming and fine tuned efforts to align policy and funding for maximum impact. This highly successful work has served as a model for other states and contributed to unprecedented gains in student achievement statewide; recent rankings show that Louisiana is leading the nation in growth in literacy and math.
Breigh’s commitment to high quality teaching and learning includes the belief that our students deserve access to robust, leading edge programs beyond the core disciplines, including STEM and the arts. Across the country, studies repeatedly show that students do better in college and their future careers when given consistent access to these programs from a young age. Ascension Parish is well positioned to lead the way with innovative, top-tier programs and facilities for STEM and the visual and performing arts, yet much of our potential remains untapped. For our young people to flourish after graduation and our community to continue to prosper, we must strengthen future-ready learning right now. Breigh understands how to improve and innovate without tossing out the strong working foundation; she knows how to stretch taxpayer dollars so we are doing more without spending more. She’ll bring that expertise to the Ascension Parish school board.
Retain and Sustain Our Excellent Teachers
Great teachers, leaders, and staff are the heart of schools and key to students’ academic growth and success. But as we place ever-growing demands on them without competitively compensating them, our schools become vulnerable to the teacher shortages happening across Louisiana and the country. Ascension Parish Public Schools have done a commendable job working proactively to hire strong staff members and incentivize them to stay. We must maintain this proactive spirit and develop a comprehensive approach to recruiting, retaining, and sustaining the very best teachers and staff to keep our district strong in the future.
Breigh will advocate for our teachers to receive competitive salaries, access to ongoing professional development, and reliable school resources to keep our best teachers in our school system – all while using her experience navigating balanced budgets and policy to responsibly manage our funds. She will also create more opportunities to engage educators in critical decisions and increase collaboration between the school board and staff. To ensure the success of our schools for decades to come, Breigh brings to the board proven strategies and insights that she’s seen work in districts across Louisiana and the country.
Collaboration and Thriving Relationships
Ascension Parish deserves a school board that leads with integrity, shared accountability, and partnership with schools, families, and the broader community. Breigh will champion decision-making that centers our students and will steward our community’s resources with transparency, strong and open communication, and care.
Breigh cares deeply about how our schools engage with families, caregivers, and the broader community. For those who know her personally or professionally, they have seen firsthand her passion for bringing people together on behalf of our children. She envisions schools that see parents as partners for success.
Our community is at its best when all of us are informed, engaged, and invested in the success of our schools and our young people. Breigh will build upon our district’s strong foundation and champion opportunities to expand and deepen partnerships between our public schools and community organizations, businesses, and higher education to increase opportunities for career-connected, real-world learning for our students.
Ascension Parish Public Schools are poised to lead the way in imagining new possibilities and creating state-of-the-art learning opportunities for our students, and Breigh believes the best way to do that is by engaging the entire Ascension Parish community.
